Leadership Savannah Class of 2024 Explores Local Arts Scene

On June 18th, the Leadership Savannah Class of 2024 explored Savannah’s vibrant arts scene. The day began with an exclusive visit to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where they toured the newly opened back lot and innovative LED stage, which showcased future film and media production.

The class then visited the historic Poetter Hall, appreciating SCAD’s blend of history and modernity. In the afternoon, they attended panel discussions at the Savannah Civic Center, featuring representatives from the Savannah Philharmonic, Savannah Music Festival, and local artists. These discussions highlighted the arts’ role in community building and economic development.

Finally, the class discussed the future of the Savannah Civic Center, including the possible restoration or demolition of the Johnny Mercer Theater. The event gave the participants a deeper understanding and appreciation of Savannah’s cultural vibrancy.
