This past Friday, Visit Savannah President Joseph Marinelli and Vice-President Jeff Hewitt escorted Savannah City Council members Linda Wilder-Bryant and Nick Palumbo on a tour of the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Expo at the Savannah Convention Center. Council members got a behind-the-scenes look at the operations and logistics involved in putting on a large-scale running event. Ms. Wilder-Bryant and Mr. Palumbo were impressed with the overall energy and excitement of the Expo and the pre-race fun participants and guests were having while visiting our city. Rock ‘n’Roll Race Director Drew Wolff shared with the group that 86 percent of the approximate 17,000 runners traveled more than 100 miles to participate in weekend race events and generated approximately $15 million in visitor spending to our area.
