Legislative Update: Week of February 7

The General Assembly began the legislative day 16 on Monday, February 14, and will gather for a committee workday on Wednesday, February 16.

On Friday, February 11, the House passed HB 910 the FY 2022 Supplemental Appropriations bill. After passing the House, HB 910 was submitted to the Senate for review and approval. The House continues to work on the FY2023 General Appropriations bill.

Last Tuesday, February 8, Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice David Nahmias delivered the State of the Judiciary address to the joined session of the Georgia General Assembly. Chief Justice Nahmias’ remarks focused on Georgia’s judiciary response to the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, last week, Chief Justice Nahmias informed Governor Brian P. Kemp of his intentions to resign from the Georgia Supreme Court effective July 17, the last day of its current term. “After several months of reflection and prayer, I have decided that it is time for me to spend more time with my new fiancĂ©e, my children, and the rest of my family,” Nahmias wrote in his letter to the governor.
