Chamber Hosts Reception for Georgia Joint Defense Commission

The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a Georgia Joint Defense Commission reception at the Thompson Hotel last week. More than 60 business, community, and military leaders gathered with the commission members to show their support for our regional military installations.

The following day, the Joint Defense Commission held a meeting at the 165th Airlift Wing, where they discussed working with members of the Georgia congressional delegation. This work would ensure that the vocabulary and funding for the Georgia Combat Readiness Training Center to be placed in the House Defense Appropriations bill is similar and congruent with that in the Senate Defense Appropriations bill.

The Georgia Joint Defense Commission provides recommendations that promote the economic growth and expansion of Georgia’s military installations and support long-term sustainability for active-duty veterans and civilians. The 19-member commission advises executive leadership and members of the Georgia General Assembly on statewide and national military issues. The Commission works to enhance collaboration between state and federal delegations to provide the tools and resources needed to strengthen Georgia’s military installations. The Commission encourages job creation, talent development, and continued prosperity for military base establishments and surrounding communities.
