Chamber Staff To Attend Grand Opening of Homeless Shelter and Plan for Future Work in Homelessness Space

On Monday, August 1st, the Chamber staff joins Chatham Savannah Authority’s Executive Director, Jennifer Darey, to celebrate the grand opening of Tiny House Village 3 for the homeless. This village, 1 of 3 at the Cove at Dundee, will give 11 veterans permanent supportive houses bringing the total number of units available to 34. The City of Savannah recently announced its plan to construct permanent supportive housing next to the Cove at Dundee with units modeled after the Cove.

Later this week, the Chatham County Continuum of Care (CoC) will also convene a general membership meeting. The CoC will begin to organize plans and groups for future work to combat homelessness. This meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 2nd, at 9 a.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center on 305 Fahm Street.

Our community needs additional resources to address a large number of unsheltered residents, and the work of these committees is designed to improve our collective application for federal funds that are available each year. Collaboration by our nonprofits, businesses, local government, and concerned citizens gives Savannah area a higher score in the grading process that allocates those funds, making the participation of our members in the effort tremendously important.

If you have any questions or want to join the CoC, please get in touch with Jennifer Davenport.
