Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt announced a $15.3 million investment from the Federal Highway Administration for port improvements in Georgia under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aimed at modernizing infrastructure and transitioning to cleaner energy. This funding includes projects at the Port of Savannah, such as a renewable energy initiative and a large-scale charging facility by Voltera, enhancing the port’s eco-friendliness. The Georgia Ports Authority will use part of the funds for a pilot program to switch port trucks to renewable diesel while Voltera develops a charging site to reduce emissions from port-related traffic. These efforts, part of President Biden’s agenda to build a clean-energy economy, aim to improve the quality of life in communities impacted by port emissions and advance environmental justice.
