Savannah City Manager Jay Melder has unveiled a visionary plan to establish a state-of-the-art Crime Center to enhance public safety and community collaboration. This initiative leverages advanced technology to strengthen the partnership between law enforcement and the community, ensuring a safer and more secure Savannah.
Central to this groundbreaking plan is integrating outward-facing cameras with cutting-edge software recently adopted by the Savannah Police Department. Spearheaded by Chief Lenny Gunther, the Crime Center will streamline public safety efforts through the innovative platform “KeepSavannahSafe.org.”
“KeepSavannahSafe.org” lets local businesses and residents register their external surveillance cameras voluntarily. This community-driven approach allows law enforcement to access real-time footage from registered cameras in areas of interest during investigations, significantly enhancing the speed and accuracy of crime prevention and response efforts.
The Savannah Chamber of Commerce encourages all members to visit “KeepSavannahSafe.org” to learn more about how they can contribute to this initiative. This collaborative effort marks a significant milestone in Savannah’s commitment to public safety and community engagement.
