The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce was pleased to host Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King for a series of informative sessions with local industry and small business leaders last week at Savannah Technical College.
Commissioner King, joined by Meagan Hanson from Georgians for Lawsuit Reform, engaged attendees in a lively discussion about current insurance trends and the importance of tort reform considerations in the upcoming session of the Georgia legislature. During the breakfast session, Commissioner King highlighted the critical role of insurance in supporting business growth and stability. He emphasized the need for clear and fair insurance practices, particularly amid increasing litigation and natural disasters. Meagan Hanson complemented his remarks by discussing ongoing efforts for reforms in Georgia, aiming to create a more business-friendly environment.
Commissioner King addressed the President’s and Owner’s Councils as the day progressed at a well-attended luncheon. This session provided a deeper dive into issues specific to business owners, including the complexities of premises liability and rising property insurance premiums. The Commissioner stressed the importance of staying informed and involved in the legislative process, as these changes could significantly affect our state and local business landscape.
The Chamber anticipates a busy legislative season in 2025, with premises liability reform poised as a key agenda item. Commissioner King and Meagan Hanson encouraged local business leaders to stay engaged and advocate for policies promoting a fair and balanced legal environment. The Chamber will continue to provide updates and opportunities for members to participate in these important discussions.
