Leadership Savannah Explores Local Government with Key Community Leaders

Leadership Savannah’s August program offered participants an in-depth exploration of local government. The program featured an impressive roster of speakers who are key figures in Savannah and Chatham County. The session provided the class with a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of local officials and how their decisions directly affect the community.

Participants had the unique opportunity to hear from influential leaders such as Rep. Ron Stephens, Rep. Edna Jackson, Mayor Van Johnson, and Congressman Buddy Carter. These distinguished speakers shared valuable insights on legislative processes and initiatives shaping Savannah’s future. In addition, Chairman Chester Ellis, Mayor Dana Williams, Alderman Nick Palumbo, Commissioner Aaron Whitely, Tax Commissioner Sonya Jackson, and Colin McRae, Chairman of the Board of Registrars of Chatham County, contributed their expertise to round out the discussion on city and county government functions.

The session underscored the importance of civic engagement and highlighted the vital role informed and active citizens play in shaping local governance.
