The Chamber hosted its annual Savannah-Chatham Day in Atlanta February 15 with legislative meetings at the state capitol building followed by a seafood reception for State elected and appointed officials, State Legislators, key staff, Chamber members and guests.
The morning meetings and evening reception brought between 400 and 500 Savannah business leaders together with 20 elected or appointed officials, including the Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, House Speaker David Ralston, Secretary of State Brian Kemp, Attorney General Chris Carr, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Agriculture Gary Black, Georgia National Guard Adjutant General Joe Jarrard, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation Russell McMurry, Georgia Department of Transportation board member Ann Purcell, , Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson, and Department of Education Superintendent Richard Woods.
The Savannah Chatham Day speakers discussed the Chamber’s 2018 Legislative Agenda and other topics of discussion at the legislative meetings covered everything from tackling Georgia’s dependence on opioids to the role of the National Guard before, during and after weather emergencies, and protecting local agriculture and locally-made products with the Georgia Grown program.
Following the legislative meetings, attendees enjoyed a Savannah-style Lowcountry boil, which was attended by around 250 Savannah business leaders and 550-600 key state and legislative leaders.
