Savannah Chamber Shines Spotlight on Literacy Week

The Savannah Chamber held a Literacy Week roundtable breakfast, bringing together key stakeholders to address literacy challenges in Chatham County. In partnership with the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System and the Chatham Education Alliance, the event featured School Board Chair Roger Moss and Superintendent Dr. Denise Watts.

Kareem Weaver, a literacy and equity advocate from Fulcrum, opened the event with remarks that inspired dialogue between education and business leaders. Weaver later delivered the keynote at the 2024 Leadership Savannah Graduate Series, highlighting literacy’s role in shaping the community’s future.

Dr. Joe Buck’s panel discussion highlighted the United Way’s Reading Buddies program, with Cheri Dean and Helen Downing sharing success stories. Bill Kelso facilitated further discussions with Dr. Watts, gathering feedback on ways to enhance literacy in local schools.

The Chamber thanks Gulfstream and Victory North for their support and looks forward to expanding these efforts in 2025. For opportunities to become involved, contact Jennifer Davenport at jdavenport@savannahchamber.com.
