The Chamber’s Government Affairs Council met last week to hear a presentation by Georgians for Lawsuit Reform on House Resolution 993. HR993 proposes an amendment to the Georgia Constitution that would establish a business court with statewide jurisdiction to provide specialized resolution to complex business litigation matters. Subject matter jurisdiction would likely cover action pursuant to the Georgia Business Corporation Code, securities, antitrust, intellectual property issues, cybersecurity, biotechnology, professional malpractice claims, contract or business tort cases and various cases related to business codes and legislation.
The resolution has passed the House, and will appear on the general ballot in November. For more information on HR993, visit Georgians for Lawsuit Reform’s website.
