“Lady and the Tramp” to Film in Downtown Savannah

This fall, Disney studios will be filming a live-action version of their classic “Lady and the Tramp” here in Savannah. The shoot is expected to bring an economic impact of $20 million to the community, in addition to employing local crew members. Businesses and resident who will be directly affected will be notified by the production one month in advance, with a follow-up 48 hours ahead of the start of filming.
Johnson Square will serve as a town center, and will be closed to the public during shooting expected to take one to three days. Dirt will be applied to Bull, Bryan and Bay Streets on the north side of the Square. Filming will only take place in the daytime hours.

At Lower Factor’s Walk (behind Wet Willie’s) and the River Street access ramp, an alleyway set will be established and shooting will take place over five days in the early morning hours. Parking for Tubby’s employees will be temporarily relocated by the production team.

The longest period of filming will take place in Wright Square for six days in September. Facades will be applied to buildings to replicate the 1910s, and the square will be closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Dirt will be applied to the streets surrounding the square between Drayton, Whitaker, State and Oglethorpe.

For information about the filming, contact Susan Broker, director of the City’s Office of Special Events/Film & Tourism at 912-351-3837 or the Savannah Area Film Office at 912-447-4159.
