Savannah Becomes Official Coast Guard Community
Chatham County is now officially a Coast Guard Community! Commandant of the Coast Guard, Adm. Karl Schultz, bestowed the designation during a ceremony held Thursday at the Savannah Convention Center.
Coast Guard Communities are honorary designations approved by Congress recognizing a community’s special efforts to celebrate the service and sacrifice of Coast Guard men, women and families.
Thursday’s event served as an excellent reminder of how we are all beneficiaries of the Coast Guard’s tireless year-round efforts that range from search and relief missions to security and hurricane preparedness.
