Chatham Area Transit Unveils New Express Shuttle

Last week, the dot system unveiled the new dot Trolley Bus Express Shuttles for fare-free transportation around downtown Savannah. The two new shuttles arrived in August of 2016 and have been retrofitted, and went into service transporting visitors around the historic district on Monday, February 20.
The dot shuttles feature design by My Agency featuring the official dot color scheme, logo and website, and the #VisitSavannah hashtag to remind visitors to share their photo memories on their social media channels. They also accommodate 23 seated passengers and 17 standing, have a dual bicycle rack, a wheelchair life and kneeling capability and a Q-straint wheelchair tie-down system. The cost for two vehicles was $944,320. Funding was provided by a federal State of Good Repair competitive grant with a 20% match from Savannah Mobility Management, Inc. (SaMMI).

SaMMI is a 501(c)6 non-profit organization founded in 2006 which supports the dot system, including the Express Shuttle, Savannah belles Ferry, River St. Streetcar, pedestrian and vehicular way-finding and front line training.

The fare-free dot Express Shuttle connects Savannah’s visitor centers, parking facilities, attractions, shops, restaurants and accommodations, and runs every 20 minutes, seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information on the downtown Express Shuttle, including route information, visit connectonthedot.com.
