The Savannah-Chatham Public School system (SCCPSS) is looking for volunteers to donate their time at area schools. Volunteers provide valued resources and experiences for students and create connections that strengthen schools. SCCPSS seeks to organize and capture volunteers’ enthusiasm for education and passion for serving the education system.
The District is launching Operation Beacon as a new focused initiative to increase the number of volunteers who are currently working with the schools. Volunteering provides a wide array of opportunities in school operations that range from classroom helpers to tutors and mentors, to extracurricular activities and special events. There are opportunities to volunteer your time or expertise in nearly every area of interest!
In support of this initiative, SCCPSS will host six Volunteer Information Sessions the week of July 17 to share more details on the volunteer program. The schedule of sessions is as follows:
Tuesday, July 18
9-11 a.m. Southwest Middle School, 6030 Ogeechee Road
5:30-7:30 p.m. Hodge Elementary School, 975 Clinch Street
Thursday, July 20
9-11 a.m. AND 5:30-7:30 p.m. Woodville Tompkins Lower Campus, 402 Market Street
Saturday, July 22
9-10:30 a.m. AND 10:30 a.m.-Noon Johnson High School, 3012 Sunset Boulevard
The sessions will provide interested volunteers with an overview of the program, as well as an opportunity to speak with representatives from some of the schools. Meetings are open to the public.
