About

The 165th Airlift Wing is located at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, Georgia. The 165th AW was established after World War II in 1946 and currently flies the C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft. The unit was officially mobilized first for the Korean War and then again for Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 165th provides air transport for airborne forces, their equipment and supplies with delivery by airdrop or landing, and provides strategic airlift of personnel, equipment and supplies. The 165th Airlift Wing consists of an Operations Group, Medical Group, Mission Support Group, and Maintenance Group with several units that fall under each of those. In addition to their 4 Groups, they have 2 geographically separated units that support our Wing mission which includes the 117th Air Control Squadron (located at Hunter Army Airfield), the 224th Joint Communications Support Squadron (located in Brunswick). The 165th Airlift Wing consists of approximately 1400 members and stand ready to protect and serve domestically and overseas when called upon by our State or Federal leaders. Additionally, one of four Combat Readiness Training Centers in the entire United States is co-located at the 165th Airlift Wing base and is commonly referred to as The Air Dominance Center.
