Advocacy in Action: Understanding Employer’s Role under the PUMP Act

August is National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, and in partnership with Healthy Savannah, the Chamber wants to highlight the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections (PUMP) for Nursing Mothers Act. This key law took effect in 2023 and impacts workplaces nationwide. We are dedicated to keeping our members informed about legislative changes that may affect their businesses.

The PUMP Act expands workplace protections for nursing mothers, building on the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It requires employers to provide reasonable break times and a private, non-bathroom space for breastfeeding employees during the workday to ensure your business is supporting mothers and their children’s health and well-being.

Healthy Savannah offers a free evaluation tool to help businesses comply with this federal legislation. The toolkit can be accessed HERE.
