Assistant Secretary of the Army Visits Savannah

The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce along with The Georgia Ports Authority, The Savannah Economic Development Authority, the Savannah Hilton Head International Airport and the Coastal Plain Coalition, hosted the Honorable R.D. James, Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) during his recent visit to Savannah. During the numerous meetings and tours, we were able to demonstrate to the Secretary and his staff the magnitude of the Georgia Ports, its effect on the regional economy and the need for the federal government to continue funding the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project to full completion.  Also, Congressman Buddy Carter along with staff from U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson and David Perdue’s offices facilitated a meeting with Secretary James to discuss the ongoing U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permitting challenges that have hindered the necessary residential and industrial development in Southeast Georgia. ASA James is pictured at left with Congressman Carter.
We hope that when Secretary James and his staff return to Washington D.C., what they learned on their visit to Savannah will be reflected in the policy and funding request that will come from the Trump administration.
