Chamber Breakfast Highlights Progress, Calls for Continued Collaboration on Homelessness

The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce proudly sponsored a breakfast event that brought together key community leaders and advocates to address homelessness in our region.

The National Alliance to End Homelessness presented research and insights on best practices in the field, while local officials, including Mayor Van Johnson, City Manager Jay Melder, and Commissioner Aaron Whitely, participated in productive discussions along with Karen Guinn, chair of the Interagency Council on Homelessness.

The event celebrated a 22.5% reduction in unsheltered individuals yet emphasized the continued need for coordinated efforts. The “housing first” model was explored as a potential solution, underscoring the importance of collaborative and innovative approaches to tackle this complex issue.

The Chamber continues to foster collaboration between businesses, government, non-profits, and faith communities to develop effective strategies to address homelessness and create a stronger, more inclusive community.
