Georgia DOT Hosting Public Comment Period for Proposed US 17/SR 404 Spur Bridge Project, July 17-27

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is seeking comments on the proposed US 17/SR 404 Spur Bridge Major Maintenance Project (PI No. 0019219) in Chatham County, July 17 – 27. Comments collected will be part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental document that is being prepared for the project and will be considered as the project team develops the maintenance plans.
The proposed project will replace the existing cables, bridge bearings, and joints as part of the planned maintenance of the cable stayed bridge.

The US 17/SR 404 Spur Bridge will remain open to traffic during construction, however lane closures in both directions are anticipated.

Georgia DOT will respond to comments collected and publish a Comment Response Letter to the project web page approximately 30-45 days after the close of the comment period.

When: Comment period will run from Monday, July 17 to Thursday, July 27, 2023.

Where: Comments about the proposed US 17/SR 404 Spur Bridge Major Maintenance Project will be accepted until Thursday, July 27, 2023. There are several ways the public can submit comments:

  • Contact the Georgia DOT Project Manager Ron Nelson
