Leadership Savannah Gets a Close-up Look at the Criminal Justice System

Last month, Leadership Savannah was hosted by the Chief Judge of Chatham County State Court, Gregory Sapp, and Sheriff John Wilcher for a behind-the-scenes look at our local criminal justice system.

From the inside of Judge Sapp’s courtroom, Judge Derek White, also of State Court, and other courthouse personnel spoke to the class about the accountability courts operating in our community and how those alternatives to traditional approaches are seeing success.

The class then had lunch prepared by Sheriff Wilcher’s staff at the Chatham County Detention Center. Chief Jeff Hadley of the Chatham County Police Department and Captain Melissa Halford of the Savannah Police Department joined Sheriff Wilcher for a panel discussion highlighting law enforcement’s role in the community.

Many thanks to the Leadership Savannah board members and elected officials that made the day possible. For further information about Leadership Savannah, click here or contact Jennifer Davenport.
