The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the October meeting of the GA Works Licensing Commission last week. The commission, convened by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, is exploring ways to reduce barriers to employment for those in occupations that require professional licensure.
Presenters to the group discussed various ideas for modernizing the licensing process, drawing on examples from other states. The Secretary of State’s office also updated the commission on the new GOALS (Georgia Online Application Licensing System) platform, currently in phase 1 of implementation. More professions will be added to the system over the next several months.
The commission will meet again in December before discussing recommendations for the legislature to consider. Savannah Chamber President & CEO Bert Brantley, a commission member, invites all members to share their insights and feedback about the state licensing process.
