The Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT) Board of Directors, along with Chamber and Visit Savannah staff and partnering agencies, recently gathered in Mamaroneck, New York, to christen the Susie King Taylor II and Juliette Gordon Low II ferries.
These advanced 65-foot hybrid vessels, built by Derecktor Shipyards, mark a major milestone in eco-friendly public transportation. Equipped with BAE Systems’ cutting-edge electric propulsion system, including Ultrajet 305 waterjets and Permanent Magnet Traction Motors, the ferries deliver smoother rides for passengers while significantly reducing environmental impact.
The Savannah Belles Ferry services provide vital connections between City Hall Landing, the Savannah Convention Center, and the Waving Girl Landing, serving residents and visitors alike. With the introduction of these innovative hybrid ferries, the service will set new standards for efficiency and environmental sustainability.
CAT plans to hold a special event in spring 2025 to celebrate the arrival of the Susie King Taylor II and Juliette Gordon Low II ferries.
