Parking Options Available for Downtown Employees

If you work downtown, finding a place to park during the busy tourism season can be frustrating. The City of Savannah has plenty of options for parking at affordable rates in areas convenient to the workplace.
PARKING GARAGES:
City parking decks offer a daytime monthly parking rate (subject to availability). The Liberty Street deck currently has monthly passes available for $40 per month. Other decks have limited availability for $80 per month. Monthly daytime passes cover parking Monday through Friday between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m.

For those working overnight shifts, a night owl parking pass can also be purchased for an additional $35 per month. These passes are available at all city garages, and cover the period between 3 p.m. and 6 a.m., 7 days a week.

If you prefer not to buy a monthly pass, parking rates at city garages are $2 per hour (not to exceed $16) at the Whitaker Street Garage and $1 per hour during the week at all other garages. On the weekends, the parking rate is $5 per day at all garages except Whitaker Street, which can be between $5 and $10 per day depending on peak season and availability.

All city parking structures have dedicated police patrols and security cameras in order to make you and your belongings as safe as possible while on the deck.

PARKING LOTS:
If you prefer to park in a less-expensive parking lot, the City has several satellite parking lots at varying rates. You can park in the lot on Henry Street at Whitaker Street for $20 per month. The Civic Center parking lot is always available at $0.50 per hour. The parking lot on East Broughton at Barr Street is always free.

To make your commute easier, you can park on a deck or in a lot and then take the fare-free DOT shuttle to one of 24 stops near your place of work. The free downtown DOT shuttle runs Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and has stops near all city parking facilities. The shuttles run frequently enough that you should have a maximum wait time of 10 minutes. For more information on the DOT shuttle and its routes, visit ConnectOnTheDOT.com.

PARKING METERS:
City parking meters run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday (there is no fee on Sunday). Rates in Zone 1 are $2 per hour, and rates in Zone 2 are $1 per hour. If you use city meters regularly, you can get a 50% discount on the rate by purchasing a Parking Smart Card to be used on the digital parking meters. Parking Smart Cards are available at the City Parking Services Office at the Bryan Street Garage at 100 East Bryan Street.

You can also use the free ParkSavannah mobile app to easily pay your meter. Using the app means you don’t have to dig for coins in your console or the bottom of your purse, because you can pay quickly and easily from your phone without standing in line. The app will also send you a reminder notification when you time is about to expire, and save you from a parking ticket. If you need more time, you can simply extend your meter time by paying from your phone. ParkSavannah is available for free in the Google Play store and the Apple App Store. You can also sign up and pay for parking at ParkSAV.net.
