Savannah Waterfront Association Announces New Executive Director

Savannah Waterfront Association, a non-profit organization promoting historic River Street, recently hired Victoria Freeman Smith as executive director. She brings exceptional event planning and management expertise to her new position.

We are so excited to have Victoria join us as our new executive director and look forward to growth and new ventures under her leadership,” said Emily Dickinson, who serves as the board president of Savannah Waterfront Association. “She will be a real asset to Savannah’s tourism community and serve as a valuable resource for local business owners.”

Smith previously served the last 13 years as managing director for American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) in Washington, D.C. Recognized by senior management, CEOs and other C-suite membership for her outstanding service, communication and leadership, she provided corporate governance, superior events management and profitable meetings, all while creating excellent educational experiences.

In addition to her work at ACLI, Smith worked as an account executive for Courtesy Associates, Inc.; program manager for Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology; manager of financial affairs for Airports Council International-North America; and staff assistant of government agency relations and residential finance for Mortgage Bankers Association of America in the Washington, D.C. area.

Active in her community and industry, Smith has served as a volunteer with the national capital area’s March of Dimes as a board member, volunteer and significant fundraiser for 13 years. Recently she transferred membership to the Savannah March of Dimes chapter, and participated in its 2016 March for Babies Savannah. She has also served on a number of industry boards, including Ritz Carlton, Sea Island and Leading Authorities, Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) and American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics with an emphasis in finance from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Smith, originally from Olney, Md., currently resides on Tybee Island, Ga.
