Tybee Island Member Dedicated to Federal Employees

Mermaid Cottages, a vacation rental company on Tybee Island, is providing a special offer to furloughed federal employees. The offer, which is only available during the government shutdown and is based on availability, provides for a vacation rental unit for only the cost of the housekeeping.
“Mermaid Cottages appreciates our dedicated Federal employees and we’d like to invite you to spend your break on Tybee Island” said owner Diane Kaufman. More information can be found at MermaidCottages.com.

As one of “America’s friendliest cities,” the Savannah community is known for lending support when needed and some have asked for ways to help those impacted in the area. Interested individuals and businesses can support our area friends and neighbors who are feeling the strain of missed paychecks during the shutdown by helping out in the following ways:

America’s Second Harvest Food Bank is open to affected government workers from 7:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., weekdays. The USO is engaged and gathering other items of need. Also, the United Way is working to bridge the gap between those offering support and those in need.

Requested items include:

  • Retail gift cards for groceries and household items
  • Gas cards
  • Household necessities
  • Infant formula
  • Diapers, all sizes

If you would like to offer assistance in other ways, contact the following:

The United Way of the Coastal Empire: Dial 211

USO Savannah: Contact Regina Wages at (843) 224-2241 or RWages@USO.org. Monetary donations may be made to Air Station Savannah Morale Fund.
