Recently, the Savannah Sports Council revealed the official participant gift for the 2018 Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K. Runners are thrilled to see the 2018 gift backpack, a new generation of the much-beloved tote bag of previous years.
The 2018 Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K weekend kicks off April 6 with the Fashion Fitness Expo at The DeSoto Hotel Savannah from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., which will serve as race package pick-up as well as a special event for athletes and running enthusiasts to shop top vendors. Food samples, free massages, apparel and more will be offered at the event, which is free and open to the public.
Race day begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday April 7 at Drayton and Gwinnett Streets. The half marathon course covers 12 of Savannah’s 22 historic squares, leading runners past some of Savannah’s most beautiful historic homes and monuments, before ending at the iconic Forsyth Park Fountain. The 2018 finisher medals feature Savannah’s famous Candler Oak, located just across Drayton Street from the park and estimated to be about 300 years old, one of the oldest landmarks in the area. After cooling down, racers can celebrate their accomplishment at the Finish Line Festival with live music until noon.
Before leaving town, participants are invited to wrap up the weekend with morning yoga at Ellis Square, beginning at 8 a.m.
