John Reed has the antidote for those January traffic blues at Savannah’s Main Visitor Center. It’s his ‘magical’ collection of Groundhog gear. John is the operations supervisor at the MLK Visitor Center, and every year his pet groundhogs miraculously appear at the VIC. Presto: the parking lot begins to fill up with visitors!
“It works every year,” John says.“Pauxatauny Phil gets a lot of publicity, but he’s a lightweight compared to our groundhogs. It doesn’t make any difference if our guys see their shadows: in six weeks, the city will be brimming with tourists partying like….well, like it’s St. Patrick’s Day.
